Smuggled footage – a fearless Chinese activist who exposes child rape and stands up for sex workers’ rights

The danger is palpable as intrepid young filmmaker Nanfu Wang follows maverick activist Hooligan Sparrow to southern China to protest the case of six elementary school girls who were sexually abused by their principal. To draw media attention to China’s deplorable sex-services industry, Sparrow offers to work for free in the sex-trade industry. Placed under constant government surveillance, Wang and Sparrow face interrogation, harassment, and imprisonment. But with secret recording devices and hidden-camera glasses, they make startling discoveries – and eventually live to tell an angry story of “the thug-like nature of government’s intrusion into private lives.”
