In the face of poverty and racial strife, a black family nurtures hope and creativity. An intimate epic made over 10 years.

Filmed over ten years in North Philadelphia, Quest shows us tender images the Rainey family’s love. Mother Christine (“Ma”) braids daughter PJ’s hair; father Christopher (“Quest”) brings PJ to school on his bike; both work to ensure financial and emotional support. A basement drop-in radio show illustrates the importance of a strong community. Weaving pivotal life experiences with issues of poverty, politics, and gun violence, Quest is an ode to love and resilience, and a reminder that family can provide the strength to carry on.
