Yu: a farmer in her 40s, a poet with cerebral palsy, a YouTube sensation.

Yu Xiuhua is a poet from central China with cerebral palsy. She is outspoken, wry, articulate, and ardent. Her frankly sexual poem “Crossing Half of China to Sleep with You” went viral on Chinese social media in 2015, turning her into a sensation. As fame presents new possibilities, Yu embraces her new life with aplomb. Her poetry is rendered beautifully, accompanied by lush, languid visuals. The film subtly uncovers conflicting dynamics of desire: between urban and rural life, men and women, and individual and societal norms.
