Once they were WWII “comfort women” forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese – now grandmas in their 80s and 90s demanding justice

The historians’ term “comfort women” hardly begins to describe the horror endured by survivors of mass institutionalized sex slavery. For over five years Tiffany Hsiung has been gradually winning the trust of women who were interned in military brothels throughout Japanese-occupied Asia between 1932 and 1945. Whether they are seeking a formal apology from the Japanese government or summoning the courage to finally share their secret with loved ones, the three “grandmothers” featured in this film seize the chance to set future generations on a course for reconciliation, healing, and justice.
