A nephew revisits his filmmaker uncle’s life, entwining stunning archival footage of William S. Burroughs with the present day

Some 25 years after the cultural revolution of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Aaron Brookner sets off on a personal journey to discover everything he can about his Uncle Howard and the legacy of a life cut short by AIDS. Howard Brookner was a close friend of writer William Burroughs, in whose New York City bunker, Aaron unearths a modern-day tomb filled with more than 300 film canisters that offer a glimpse into his uncle’s life. Gay, Ivy League graduate, broke artist, rising Hollywood star, heroin user, jet-setter, bohemian, inspiring uncle. Featuring long-lost footage and archival photos of Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Andy Warhol, Spike Lee, Madonna, and more, Uncle Howard reveals the tumultuous and mysterious life, struggles, and untimely death of Howard Brookner.
