Feather Fall | Directed by Ossie Michelin | Canada, 2024, 23min

A person with long dark hair tied back, wearing a gray hoodie with the word "ROCKWEAR" on the back, stands facing a large group of police officers. The person is holding a single feather upright in one hand, extended toward the officers. The officers, who appear to number over a dozen, are dressed in dark uniforms and hats labeled "POLICE", standing shoulder to shoulder in a tight formation. Some officers are holding zip-tie handcuffs or weapons, and several have serious or focused expressions. The setting appears to be a road surrounded by trees, with autumn foliage visible in the background. The scene conveys a moment of confrontation or protest.

Ten years after capturing a defining image of Indigenous resistance—Amanda Polchies kneeling in prayer with an eagle feather in hand before a line of RCMP in riot gear—Inuk filmmaker and journalist Ossie Michelin returns to Elsipogtog, New Brunswick. Feather Fall reconnects with the women and warriors who stood on the frontlines of a historic anti-fracking standoff, reflecting on its impact and the community’s enduring legacy of resistance. Told through an Indigenous lens, the film is a powerful meditation on sovereignty, healing and the strength of collective action.

THIS EVENT IS A PART OF THE 6TH ANNUAL MNOOMINKEWIN GATHERING

An illustrated image with a blue background features an oval-shaped scene of a lake at sunset. Inside the oval, two people are silhouetted paddling a canoe in calm water, surrounded by reeds and grass. A bird flies above them, and a fish swims below the surface of the water. The sky transitions from orange to pink. The text is arranged in layers:

At the top: “mnoomin” in large, green rounded letters.

In the middle: “Ge” in bold yellow letters, and “nibi” in textured light blue letters with a white outline.

At the bottom: “mnoominkewin 2025” in bold black and red text.
