Celebrate the history of LGBTQIA2S+ rights activism in Canada by coming together in community for Peterborough/Nogojiwanong Pride 2025 and this screening of an inspiring and moving film. Pay what you can online or at the door to help cover the costs of the event. Everyone is welcome.

Parade: Queer Acts of Love & Resistance | Directed by Noam Gonick | Produced by Justine Pimlott | Canada, 2025, 96min

Parade: Queer Acts of Love & Resistance captures pivotal moments that sparked Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ movement, honouring the activists and elders whose resistance led to the rights we have today.

Through rarely seen archival footage and first-person accounts, audiences are brought to the frontlines of the struggle. From police raids to early drag shows, community organizing to the House of Commons—the complex history of the country’s diverse communities is brought to life. Key milestones illustrate the power of taking it into the streets and underscore how easily the rights we’ve fought for can be revoked, making the documentary essential viewing for all Canadians.

Unflinching, bold, enraging, hopeful; Parade is a vital new chapter in the queer canon.

With the attacks that trans people and other members of our rainbow collective are once again facing, it is urgently time for a refresher on the activist movements that got us this far. Queer archives shouldn’t be allowed to get dusty; those snapshots, video clips and film reels ought to see the light of day—so that we can give flowers to those who made a difference. With Parade, we wanted to put viewers on the street where our rights were won. To hear, see and feel the invigorating protests that moved the needle and opened up Canadian society. May this film act as a guidebook, lest those phalanxes need resurrecting in the days to come. – Naom Gonick

THIS EVENT IS A PART OF PETERBOROUGH-NOGOJIWANONG PRIDE WEEK
