ReFrame 2027 Artwork

The artwork featured across ReFrame’s 2027 creative materials was commissioned from local artist Brooklin Stormie.

In this hopeful digital illustration, Brooklin celebrates the power of documentary filmmaking through contrasting visual symbolism. The transformation from night to day illustrates how filmmaking can illuminate and broaden our field of vision, both literally and metaphorically.

Working with a palette of warm earth tones and teals, Brooklin creates an accessible image that encourages visual exploration, inviting viewers to spend time engaging with the details. The gentle colour story seeks to reinforce an overall tone of hope and possibility. In the partitioned border, Brooklin draws from her background in comics and temporal storytelling, allowing each panel to contain its own tiny narrative, touching on themes of community as well as social and environmental justice.

The symbols contained within the film strips range tonally from optimistic to grim. The blue heron celebrates local biodiversity, while the radioactive fruit tree highlights environmental urgency. The duality of tone throughout these symbols is meant to acknowledge the holistic notion that a sober understanding of the world and the act of hope are not mutually exclusive.
