PANEL: Holding Space in a Time of Genocide

January 31, 4:45PM

SHOWPLACE PERFORMANCE CENTRE – 290 George St N, Peterborough

Preceding the screening of the films Zanana and Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, we will hold space for a community discussion of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the many failures of the so-called ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and beyond. As witnesses to more than 2 years of live-streamed atrocities, many of us carry unresolved grief, anger, and shock over the incapacity and outright refusal of the world’s leaders, to prevent and punish this genocide. We have been left to wonder: how can we most effectively resist in moments such as these? The creative work of artists, filmmakers, photographers and animators tell stories of despair and beauty, of brutal occupation and creative resistance. These acts, and coming together in community to witness them, help us find strength and inspiration.

Members of The Coalition to End the Genocide in Gaza, Nogojiwanong 2 Palestine, and Jews for a Free Palestine will be on hand to answer questions and offer solidarity. As well, active listeners will be in attendance to offer support during and after the films.
