Filmmaker Panels

Featuring filmmakers and change-makers, ReFrame Panels give you the opportunity to learn about the filmmaking process, and about the issues and themes at the core of ReFrame. This year, there are two panel discussions:

Directors and Editors:

The Magic of Documentary Storytelling

Saturday January 27, 2018  |  11:30AM  |  The Venue

In documentary, the best editor’s work is invisible. The film is shaped by the often-close collaborative relationship between the editor and director. This panel will focus on that special moment when a filmmaker and an editor click — when the magic, the art, the craft, the “Oh my God” of documentary storytelling happens.

With Aisha Jamal, Sean Liliani, Mike Munn, and Melanie Wood.

Indigenous, Impressive, Intimate:

A Panel Discussion on Relationships Revitalized

Saturday January 27, 2018  |  12:30PM  |  The Venue

This panel focuses on people of the Kanyen’keha:ka, Michi Saagiig Anishinaabe, and Secwepemc. The directors and subjects explore the experiences of people who are rekindling relationships and reconnecting with language, the land, and cultural healing.  The camera takes us inside these intimate stories, revealing the challenges, courage and beauty behind thrown-around terms like ‘reconciliation’ and ‘revitalization.’

With Nikki Auten, Cara Mumford, and Sean Stiller.
